It was for this…!

As we embrace the truth of His word, we begin to experience the liberty that we long for – the liberty Jesus died to give us.

This devotional is part of the Triumphing Series. It is based on the song ” It was for this..!”

I magnify, I glorify

The Name of Jesus

I lift up high, I amplify

The Name of the Son

For it was He

Who came to save

And redeem me from the grave

I magnify, I glorify

The Life- Giving name of the Son

I magnify, I glorify

The Name of Jesus

I lift up high, I amplify

The Name of the Son

For it was He, Who broke the chains

And delivered me from shame

I magnify, I glorify

The Bondage-Breaking name of the Son

(It was for this!

That He was born

It was for this!

He wore a crown of thorns

To destroy and decimate

To eliminate, To exterminate

To annihilate

All our enemies!)X2

I magnify, I glorify

The Name of Jesus

I lift up high, I amplify

The Name of the Son

For it was He

Who took my curse

And then poured out a blessing

I magnify, I glorify

The Curse-Reversing name of the Son

(It was for this!

That He was born

It was for this!

He wore a crown of thorns

To destroy and put to flight

To immobilize, To paralyze

To pulverize

All our enemies!)X2

I magnify, I glorify

I magnify, I glorify

The Life-Giving, Bondage-Breaking,

Curse-Reversing,  Wealth-Restoring

Name of the Son!

Key Bible Verses

“I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one can snatch them away from me.” (John 10:28, NLT)

“And you know that God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. Then Jesus went around doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.” (Acts 10:38, NLT)

“.. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.” (1 John 3:8(b), NKJV)

“Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us; for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree. ” (Galatians 3:13, NKJV)

The victory that Jesus secured over Satan is irrevocable and irreversible. Yet sometimes – probably due to our personal struggles, as well as those of other Christians around us, we can’t quite perceive just how definite and decisive that victory was. I have had my fair share of doubts over the years but I no longer want to allow them to hinder me from experiencing  all He has for me.

Jesus the Life-Giver

By taking the punishment for our sin upon Himself, Jesus made it possible for us to escape judgment and receive eternal life in exchange ( John 5:24).  Amazingly, for the Christian, death has no victory because we know that the grave is not the end, it is just the beginning of a life that’s better than anything we have ever known or ever dreamed of.

Jesus  the Bondage-Breaker

As we embrace the truth of His word, Jesus sets us free from mental and emotional torment. Personality and behavioural disorders – as well as addictions – fall away as we live in obedience to His word, allow His truth to renew our minds, and exercise the authority He has given us over Satan( Luke 10:19 ). He is the healer of the broken hearted (Isaiah 61:1).  I attend a church where we have seen many lives set free from drug and alcohol addiction as well as the underlying hurts that drove people to seek refuge in all the wrong places.

Jesus the Curse-Reverser

Jesus took our curse, and then blessed us with every spiritual blessing ( Ephesians 1:3). He wants to set us free from repeating debilitating family patterns,  as well as unwise pursuits and ventures that promise more than they deliver. He gives us a new nature and enables us to start over (2 Corinthians 5:17 ).

Jesus the Wealth-Restorer

Two years ago, I met two business people who had mind-blowing stories of financial restoration. The first had previously been forced to declare bankruptcy. The second had squandered many years in riotous living, and ended up spending several years in prison – and when he left he owed tens of thousands of dollars in fines. Both surrendered everything to Jesus, realizing their desperate need of Him.  Later, each received guidance on how they could use their talents to generate an income ( Deut 8:18 ). One set up a health and fitness business, operated fully from home but with an e-commerce element. The second leveraged his ability in construction work to build what became a highly respected business in his region. Both experienced such success, that they had become generous donors to Christian ministries.

I magnify and glorify the name of Jesus for laying down His life so that we might enjoy fulfilling, fruitful and impactful lives, both now and in eternity (John 10:10)!

  1. It’s just last week I meditated on Jesus the Curse Breaker after watching a life so thoroughly destroyed by family/ lineage issues. Let’s continue dwelling in and pointing all to Christ
