Awakening to the realization of God’s Timeless Love

God’s love is timeless. It lasts forever. His declaration of love to us is not mere words – it is backed by an unbreakable agreement  – the New Covenant.

This devotional blog is from the Series “The Awakening.”  It is based on the song “Timeless Love.”

SONG: TIMELESS LOVE

1.Life hasn’t been easy

There have been times

I have wandered away

Life has brought real changes

There have been times

I’ve resisted Your ways

Yet…. Your love stays the same

Your love still remains

Your love covers over a multitude of sins

Your love stays the same

Your love still remains

Your love covers over a multitude of sins

Tell me where could I go

Tell me where could I look

To find a love that’s as timeless as Yours.

2.You, know how I’ve wondered

If there was still hope

For someone like me ….

You, know how I’ve doubted

If there was still room

For someone like me

Yet.. Your love teaches me

What love really means

It’s the reason You laid down Your life on that tree

Your love teaches me

What love really means

It’s a strength that keeps giving and giving to me

Tell me where could I go

Tell me where could I look

To find a love as timeless as Yours.

Your love stays the same

Your love still remains

Your love covers over a mountain of sins

Your love stays the same

Your love still remains

Your love covers over a multitude of sins

Tell me where could I go

Tell me where could I look

To find a love as enduring

Find a love as unchanging

Find a love that’s as timeless

As Yours.

Bible Reading

“Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins” ( 1 Peter 4:8, NIV).

“I am overwhelmed with joy in the Lord my God! For He has dressed me with the clothing of salvation and draped me in a robe of righteousness. I am like a bridegroom dressed for his wedding or a bride with her jewels.” (Isaiah 61:10, NLT).

“God also bound Himself with an oath, so that those who received the promise could be perfectly sure that He would never change His mind. So God has given both His promise and His oath. These two things are unchangeable because it is impossible for God to lie. Therefore, we who have fled to Him for refuge can have great confidence as we hold to the hope that lies before us. (Hebrews 6:17-18, NLT)

Driving home one day, I suddenly started to sing a song in a language that I didn’t understand. As I sang, I got the distinct impression that the message contained in the song was very important. So I prayed for understanding. Soon after, still driving, I started singing the same song, only this time in English. The apostle Paul wrote about the phenomenon of singing in a previously unknown language and then receiving the interpretation. He points out that the interpretation comes so that others may be strengthened, and so that they too, may praise God  ( 1 Corinthians 14:15-17) . So in obedience to that I truth, I now share the song with you.

This wasn’t the first time that I was learning about the enduring nature of God’s love. “His love endures forever” is a phrase which occurs many times in the Bible. It’s also a theme that features in many psalms (e.g Psalm 118) and in gospel music. Yet up to that moment, it was just head knowledge. Thankfully, the Holy Spirit considered it important enough to correct the situation using a song!  His supernatural intervention was a fulfillment of the promise Jesus gave to His disciples – that He would not leave them alone after He left earth – He would send His Holy Spirit to be with them, and guide them into truth (See John 16:13).

God’s love is timeless

God’s love is timeless. It lasts forever. His declaration of love is not mere words – it is backed by an unbreakable agreement  – the New Covenant. This covenant is sealed with the blood Jesus shed at the Cross.  Therefore, we don’t need to be afraid that the Lord will end our relationship due to our numerous weaknesses. Far from it! Infact, having been human once, He understands our struggles (Hebrews 4:15).

This doesn’t mean He overlooks sin. There is probably nothing that God hates more than sin. However, becoming holy is a lifelong process. No one instantly matches the perfect standard set by Jesus. God has to continually work “in” and “on” to show us where we need to change, and then, help us change. So beating ourselves over the head because of our failures is a sign that we’ve believed the lie that we have to “earn” His love. This false belief also makes us harsh with others ( and I’ve been guilty of this).

God’s love covers over (blots out) our sins.

I wasted a lot of time feeling guilty and condemned even after I had confessed my sin. For many years, these feelings kept me from serving God with the gifts and talents He  entrusted to me. Yet God had blotted out my sins and put them as far away from me as the east is from the west  ( Psalm 103:12)! Since He will not bring up our sinful past again, neither should we. And His finishing touch is to clothe us with “a robe of righteousness!” (Isaiah 61:10).  Now that’s a reason to rejoice!

Prayer: Thank you Father for your timeless love. Thank You for blotting out my sins. You don’t want my past or present failures to keep me from enjoying your love and from serving You.  Thank you too, for the relentless nature of Your love. Your love is a strength You possess that keeps on giving and forgiving. I am forever grateful.
