From the beginning of time

God loves us so much, He has always wanted us to have an unending relationship with Him. He values our company for all eternity.  He does not want anyone to live apart from Him.

This devotional is part of the Awakening series. It is inspired by the Biblical truths in the  song “From the Beginning of Time.”

From the beginning of time

The Father sought me

From the dawn of the age

He knew my name

From the foundation of the world

The Father bought me

That I might share His life

That I might know His love

To  know Him is to have the gift of eternal life

To know Him is to have the love that never can die

From the height of His throne

The Son descended

Took the form of a man

And bore my sin

Then He died on the cross

Its shame despising

That I might share His life

That I might know His love.

I know Him, and I have the gift of eternal life

I know Him, and I have the love that never can die

From the Father’s right hand

The Spirit poured out

Came to rest upon me

And fill my heart

Now I’m clothed in His power

So I can serve Him

Help others share His life

Help others know His love

You can know Him, You can have the gift of eternal life

You can know Him, You can have the love that never will die

Key Bible Verses:

“ in the hope of eternal life, which God, who does not lie, promised before the beginning of time,  and which now at His appointed season He has brought to light…”  (Titus 1:2-3, NIV)

“For this is how much God loved the world—He gave his one and only, unique Son as a gift. So now everyone who believes in Him will never perish but experience everlasting life.” (John 3:16, TPT)

Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy.” (Joel 1:18, NIV)

“For I take no pleasure in the death of anyone, declares the Sovereign Lord. Repent and live!” (Ezekiel 18:32, NIV).

God had a plan for a personal relationship with us long before we were born, and before He ever created man. This plan came into being  from the beginning of time.

Looking into the future He saw that we would turn our backs on Him. And so, from the outset, He initiated a plan for reconciliation. Jesus is the “lamb slain from the foundation of the world.” (Rev. 13:8, KJV).   Jesus gladly paid the ultimate price as a penalty for all our sin.  This means that going to hell is the result of a person rejecting the offer of forgiveness that God extends to all of us (see Ezekiel 18:32). It has never been God’s desire that anyone’s life ends in this tragic way.

The story of God’s love is woven into every book of the Bible. “From the Beginning of Time” reminds us of the central truths of that marvelous story:

  • Love motivated the creation. The Father wanted a family of sons and daughters, with whom He could share eternity (Hebrews 2:10). It’s the reason He passionately pursues us even today. We are ‘sought after’!
  • Love is the reason Jesus stooped to the status of humanity. It’s the reason He descended from the height of His heavenly throne (Phil 2:6-7).
  • Love gave Jesus the strength to endure the agony and the shame of crucifixion. (Phil 2:8). It’s the reason He paid the ultimate price. He bought us and settled any claims against us!
  • Love motivated the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on our lives. Its the reason He chose to live inside us, making His comfort, teaching, guidance and power available to us (John 14:16-17,26; John 16:13; Acts 1:8).

If you haven’t received the gift of eternal life yet, there’s no better day than today! Start by agreeing with God that you have sinned against Him by not loving Him, other people and yourself.  Next, believe that when Jesus died on the cross, He was being punished for your sins and ask for, and receive, the gift of forgiveness and with it, the new birth.  After this, strengthen your relationship with God by talking  to Him in prayer daily, hearing Him speak to you as you read the Bible and living in obedience to His Word.  And then join a Bible-believing church where you can worship and serve God together with other Christians.
